Yes! The right beach temperatures are back! We ‘just’ had a few hours to spare, quickly packed a picnic basket and jumped into the Sequa Tours water taxi that will take you to the island for a very reasonable price.

Ilha de Tavira, what a relief to step ashore there. The relaxed island feeling immediately overwhelms you; you automatically walk a little slower… The warmth of the sun, the soft sand under your feet and the sultry, spicy scents of the dune vegetation; it immediately feels like vacation.

The Ilha, which is Portuguese for island, is a beach island where there are no cars and actually consists of 3 beaches, namely Praia de Tavira and Praia da Terra Estreita where you can only come by boat (ferry or water taxi), and Praia do Barril where a cute open train takes you to the beach.

Our starting point was Praia de Tavira, the busiest part of the island. Here is a campsite, a shop and several nice restaurants. The fish are beautifully displayed everywhere in the refrigerated display cases, the barbecue smell immediately makes you hungry and the service staff greets you with typical Portuguese friendliness. We already know quite a few people, so it is nice to see them again after our short winter.

We start with a refreshing drink at Xiri Beachbar and then stroll up the beach to begin our walk to the idyllic and unspoilt Praia de Terra Estreita. Halfway to the end point Praia do Barril we got hungry and thirsty from the abundance of healthy sea air. Boa apetite!

More than 12,000 steps and a few hours of enjoyment later, we return to our starting point at the end of the afternoon. This time on the renovated terrace of O Ferreiro.

You can enjoy with us through the photos. It is of course even better to come and discover all this beauty for yourself. And how wonderful it is to come ‘home’ after a day at the beach in B&B Guesthouse Casa Verdazul for a refreshing shower or for a dip in our swimming pool! Bemvindo, or be welcome!

Until the next Beachnews!
